Why would conventional scientists, invested in traditional ideas, embrace an outsider’s discovery, which would disrupt the current culture and economics of food, medicine, agriculture? Why would conventional scientists, who have invested years in their work, reward an outsider’s innovations that would render old ways obsolete or even prove current scientific consensus to be treacherous? New scientific discoveries are essentially a threat to industries and investments. Innovative scientific discoveries are a threat to favored dogmas and economic models in food science, … [Read more...] about Peer review SCIENCE FAIL: Scientific discoveries suppressed due to pride of “experts” and the defense of economic status quo
You're not the only one who will take a late-summer road trip. A new grizzly bear "highway" has been identified along coastal British Columbia, Canada, according to research led by indigenous Canadians, the Heiltsuk.Conducted over three years, this study tracked almost 60 grizzly bears trekking hundreds of miles to feed on salmon in the fall in the Koeye River. However, the researchers propose preliminary data that these populations are declining. "Available salmon biomass declined up to 2008," explain the researchers. "When salmon availability is low, both physiological, i.e. nutritional, and social, i.e. dominancy hierarchies, factors have been implicated in lower reproductive output." The researchers speculate that together, this spells trouble for the bears.More From Rodale News: How to Save Fish by Eating FishThis study is also unique for its involvement of the Heiltsuk people. Having lived in this region for more than 9,000 years, this First Nation (the Canadian equivalent of … [Read more...] about Discovery of Grizzly Bear Highway Reveals Declining Bear Populations
(Natural News) As Americans, most of us are proud of our country, our freedoms, our rights, our armed forces and the privileges we are afforded on a day-to-day basis. We are also prone to accept every scientific accomplishment and new discovery as proof that we are on the cutting edge of advancement, without ever questioning anything. This leads too many of us to assume that every major modern medical invention should be heralded as something that can benefit mankind, when just the opposite is often true. Are we not patriots if we simply question Western medicine? Are we not loyal Americans if we question chemicals as the mainstream way to treat illness, disease and disorder? Have we lost faith in “everything American” if we study the true history of the American Medical Association (AMA) and realize it’s a for-profit business created over a century ago with the main goal of using chemical medicine to cover up symptoms of sicknesses while helping the … [Read more...] about If prescription medicine is such a modern scientific feat, why do Americans who are on medications remain the sickest people?
(Natural News) While yellow bananas may be tastier, the darker brown ones may be better for you. According to TheHeartySoul.com, a 2009 article in the journal Food Science and Technology Research claimed that overripe bananas contained more Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), a cancer-fighting cytokine or small protein. The study was conducted by Masatoshi Yamazaki and Haruyo Iwasawa. They made this discovery via in vitro tests on mice cells. Results showed that older bananas with brown spots were 25 percent more effective at producing TNF than the yellow variety. The TNF found in overripe bananas was said to prevent the growth and spread of tumor cells that would cause the death of cells in the body, reports TheSun.co.uk. Known as apoptosis, this a naturally occurring cellular process that is negatively affected by tumor cells.Bananas are a fruit known to contain a wide variety of health benefits. They contain high levels of antioxidants that not only boost the immune system and increase the … [Read more...] about Do not toss: Overripe bananas may be effective against cancer cells, finds scientific study
(Natural News) As the fake news “establishment” media continues its collapse, with layoffs, downsizing and rapid declines in readership, the popularity of the independent media is exploding. Here at Natural News, even though we’ve been subjected to the most oppressive censorship imaginable (by Google, YouTube, Facebook and all the other internet gatekeepers), public hunger for truth in science and medicine is so great that we’re rapidly growing.Today, I’m announcing the hiring of four new science and medicine writers who have joined the Natural News team. Importantly, these writers cover the latest scientific breakthroughs with unbiased objectivity, summarizing the most amazing science papers, academic science discoveries and scientific news with a fact-centric approach. While much of Natural News has always been activist oriented — advocating GMO labeling, opposing mercury in vaccines, banning glyphosate from the food supply, and so on — I felt … [Read more...] about Natural News hires four science writers to cover the latest discoveries on nutritional science, medicine and technology
(Natural News) An exciting medical breakthrough published in the science journal Oncotarget has discovered the astonishing ability of concentrated vitamin C to halt the growth of cancer tumor stem cells. The study, conducted at the University of Salford in Manchester — (see full text of the study at this link) — tested the impact on cancer stem cell metabolism for seven substances:Three natural substances, including vitamin CThree experimental pharmaceuticalsOne clinical drug currently in widespread useThe study’s astonishing results reveal “the first evidence that Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can be used to target and kill cancer stem cells (CSCs), the cells responsible for fuelling fatal tumours,” reports the flagship science publisher Alpha Galileo.Led by Michael P. Lisanti and Gloria Bonuccelli, the study results astonished researchers when it found that vitamin C worked up to 10 times better than a pharmaceutical cancer drug at interfering with cancer … [Read more...] about Vitamin C breakthrough discovery: Low-cost nutrient halts growth of cancer stem cells… 1000% more effective than cancer drug… peer-reviewed science confirms powerful effects
(Natural News) Researchers from the University of Exeter Medical School and University of Zaragoza in Spain have uncovered a new way that the community of microorganisms symbiotically living in the human gut may contribute to helping regulate brain chemistry. The remarkable study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.The human gut alone hosts approximately 100 trillion bacteria and other microbes of many different species, which are collectively known as the gut microbiome or microbiota (our body’s overall microbiome also includes microbes living on the skin and in other parts of the body). Studies have shown that the gut microbiome plays a key role in regulating everything from digestion and metabolism to immune function and even mood, but the mechanisms of this action remain largely a mystery.Prior research has shown that a disrupted microbiome may contribute to the development of inflammatory disease, including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease or … [Read more...] about Stunning scientific discovery finds that gut bacteria control your brain chemistry, altering moods and more
(Natural News) (NaturalNews) Six new animal species have been identified living near hot springs nearly two miles beneath the surface of the ocean, according to a paper published by researchers from the University of Southampton and the Natural History Museum in London and Newcastle, and published in the journal Scientific Reports.Unfortunately, the poorly studied home of these newly discovered species is already slated for deep ocean mining. The case highlights the great threat to ocean life posed by the up-and-coming industry of sea floor mining, the scientists warn.Greenpeace has previously warned that though there are between 500,000 and 5 million unidentified marine species, the coming boom in deep sea mining places these creatures at risk of extinction before they can even be named. Magnet for ocean lifeThe previously unknown animals were identified by a deep-diving remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that researchers were using to explore a region of the Indian Ocean known as Longqi … [Read more...] about Deep sea mining: discovery of 6 new species in unexplored hydro-thermal vents
Scientists have discovered a previously undocumented group of immune cells that interact with the nervous system to play a key role in obesity. They suggest that the breakthrough may lead to new targets for obesity treatments. The researchers - led by Ana Domingos, Ph.D., from the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência in Portugal - describe the new immune cells, which they call sympathetic neuron-associated macrophages (SAMs), in a new paper published in the journal Nature Medicine. Obesity is a global epidemic whose prevalence has more than doubled since 1980. In 2014, more than 600 million people, or around 13 percent of adults, were obese. Overweight and obesity pose major health risks because they raise the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes, heart and circulation diseases, cancer, and other chronic diseases. The worldwide epidemic of obesity and the health problems associated with it has increased scientific research into the underlying biology of the … [Read more...] about Could the discovery of new immune cells help to treat obesity?
If joint pain has consumed your life, you’ve probably tried glucosamine, chondroitin, and other nutritional supplements to ease your pain before. But, I’ll bet that you’ve been disappointed with the results. You’re not alone. Why — when study after scientific study concludes that glucosamine and chondroitin should help reduce your pain — are you left on the sidelines, still suffering? It’s a dirty story, but one you must hear. I’m Victor Marchione, MD. And I’m writing to you today in an effort to help you regain the life that joint pain has stolen from you. The dirty story you have to hear started when Dr. Natalie Eddington, director of the Pharmacokinetics-Biopharmaceutics Lab at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, studied 14 products containing glucosamine and another 11 products containing chondroitin. Dr. Eddington made a shocking discovery! The glucosamine and chondroitin products she studied DID NOT contain … [Read more...] about A Shocking Discovery to Finally Relieve Your Joint Pain
