“I love my double chin!” said nobody, ever—and if a new drug becomes popular, double chins might soon become a thing of the past. The Food and Drug Administration has approved Kybella, a drug that promises to get rid of double chins with a few simple injections. Kybella is identical to the deoxycholic acid produced in the body that helps it absorb fats, and it works to dissolve fat under the chin by destroying the membrane of fat cells, causing them to burst. The rest of the fat cells are then absorbed back into the body. The drug’s safety was tested in two clinical trials of 1,022 patients and can get rid of a double chin within six months after receiving monthly injections, the FDA says. Patients can be injected up to 50 times per treatment, meaning it could take up to 300 injections to get rid of a double chin altogether.RELATED: 3 Ways to Minimize Stubborn Face FatWhile 300 is a lot, for many people that's still preferable to current, more invasive … [Read more...] about There’s a New Cure for Double Chins
Liposuction for love handles
You’ve probably done supersets before. A superset is when you pair together two exercises, and do them back-to-back with little to no rest. They’re typically classified as competitive or non-competitive.Competitive supersets work similar muscle groups or utilize similar movement patterns. For example, you could pair a squat with a lunge. These movements both work your lower body. Since your legs are pre-fatigued from the squats, the lunges will feel so much more challenging than they normally do. Top bodybuilders have used this type of superset for decades. That’s because it puts the working muscles under tension for a prolonged period of time, making it great for stimulating growth. On the other hand, non-competitive supersets work different areas of your body. So you could pair an upper- and a lower-body move like the pushup and the squat. Or you could combine a pushing and a pulling exercise like the dip and the pullup so you’re working … [Read more...] about 3 Superset Workouts That Will Melt Away the Fat Covering Your Abs
Ask a guy at the gym what he likes least about his body, and don't be surprised when he says "love handles." These pockets of fat are famously stubborn. You might feel like you're in the best shape of your life and still not be able to shake those little bits of chub on either side of your waistline."With guys the most popular area of concern is love handles," says Dr. Marina Peredo, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of NYC's Skinfluence, "because you can work out and not get rid of them."For years, the cosmetic answer was liposuction. Vacuuming your fat out through a needle was a sure way to get rid of it—and quickly. But if just reading that made you clench your teeth, then you'll need another option. The past 10 years have seen the rise of non-invasive treatments, meaning ones that don't involve surgery. These use either cold or heat to kill fat cells in problem areas, and take about as long as you'd need for a relaxed lunch. So, if you're ready to crush your love … [Read more...] about Would You Freeze or Burn Your Love Handles Off?
One of the biggest myths in fitness is that you can burn fat locally by targeting certain muscle groups. But, unfortunately, the old saying goes "abs are made in the gym but revealed in the kitchen" -- there's no way to get a toned stomach without losing body fat all over. At least, there isn't right now, but a new study in mice could mean that a simple skin patch could zap troublesome flabby areas into oblivion in the future. The study, run by researchers at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, focused on turning white fat -- the stagnant, troublesome kind that builds up around the waist in men -- into brown fat (learn more about it here!), which is used for energy storage and burns off quickly. Li Qiang, the study's co-leader and an assistant professor of pathology and cell biology at Columbia, explained in a news release that the drugs they're using aren't new -- ways of "browning" fat exist -- but the delivery method is, and it's much better for the body."There … [Read more...] about Scientists Are Developing A Patch To Burn Off Your Love Handles For Good
Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture suction, lipectomy, or lipo, is a type of cosmetic surgery that breaks up and "sucks" fat from the body. Most commonly, liposuction is used on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves, and back. During liposuction, the fat is removed through a hollow instrument - a cannula - which is inserted under the skin. A powerful, high-pressure vacuum is applied to the cannula. Liposuction is the most common cosmetic operation in America and the United Kingdom. More than 300,000 procedures are carried out in the United States each year with costs ranging from roughly $2,000-3,500. Patients who undergo liposuction generally have a stable body weight, but would like to remove undesirable deposits of body fat in specific parts of the body. Liposuction is not an overall weight-loss method - it is not a treatment for obesity. Liposuction does not remove cellulite, dimples, or stretch marks. … [Read more...] about Liposuction: Uses, Risks, and Benefits
