If the reason you exercise is to lose weight, you may have wondered which type of exercise will give you the best results: endurance training (like going for long runs) or strength training (like lifting weights).A recent study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that combined with a reduced calorie diet, the type of exercise might not be an important factor when it comes to weight loss.MORE: Getting to the Goal Weight, More or LessThe researchers selected 96 obese men and women to enroll in a supervised 22-week program. The participants were randomized into four different exercise groups: a strength training group did an eight-exercise circuit routine; an endurance training group did cardio exercises; a combined strength and endurance training group did a combination of cardio and circuits; and a control group was told to exercise at least 200 to 300 minutes each week, as recommended by the American College of Sports Medicine (this could include a variety of … [Read more...] about The Best Way To Lose Weight Is…
People who care enough to argue about nutrition generally fall into two camps. There are those who believe that your body weight rises and falls based on the amount of food you eat and the amount of energy you expend. This camp is sometimes derided as “CICO,” for calories-in, calories-out.The other side argues that what you eat—and what you avoid—matters far more than your total calories. Within this second camp, you’ll find any number of stakeholders supporting any number of diets, but one faction gets more attention than the rest combined. They’re the ones who believe that carbohydrates cause obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and just about all human misery that isn’t directly linked to smoking or sectarian warfare. (Here’s the truth about how sugar really affects your health.)Anthony Howard-Crow, a 32-year-old photographer and serial stunt dieter in Loveland, Colorado, is in the CICO camp.As he explains in this video, he started a … [Read more...] about This Guy Is Going On an Ice Cream Diet to Lose Weight, and Experts Say It Will Actually Work
If you've ever dieted to lose weight, you know that being hungry is literally the worst part. You’ve lost weight, but will you keep it off? A low-glycemic-index diet may work better than others at burning calories and helping people ward off those pesky Lbs, reports a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association. In the study, researchers had 21 people who’d lost 10 to 15 percent of their body weight try three different diets, each for 4 weeks. The diets consisted of a low-fat, a low-carbohydrate, and a low-glycemic-index—which endorses carbohydrates that keep blood sugar levels low—eating program. The result: Even though the participants ate the same amount of calories on each of the plans, they burned an average of 300 fewer calories per day on the low-fat diet compared to the low-carb option. But the low-carb diet wasn’t a win-win alternative, either. Although it was better at encouraging calorie burn, it also caused the greatest increases in cortisol and C-reactive protein levels—both of which may elevate heart disease … [Read more...] about The Best Diet to Keep Weight Off
Cardiovascular exercise burns a lot of calories. In fact, it often burns more than other forms of exercise like strength training or trendier workouts like yoga or Pilates. The more you sweat, the more you burn calories and the more weight you lose, right? In a way, the headphone-and-Lycra set is right. But when it comes to weight control, cardiovascular exercise can’t be your only solution to weight loss. Why? For one reason: In the long run, aerobic exercise builds little muscle, and muscle is the key component of a speedy metabolism and one of the best ways to lose weight. That’s why the Abs Diet Quickstart Plan builds your abs with the Fat-Blaster workout and tells you to hit the machines 3 times a week. Not only are you warping your abdominals into fat-melters, the muscles in your lower half sculpt the fastest, meaning you’ll gain muscle—fast. After all, muscle eats fat: Add 1 pound of muscle, and your body burns up to an additional 50 calories a day just to … [Read more...] about Ways To Lose Weight: Get Stronger Muscles
A couple of year's back I filmed a now-infamous video called, "Diet vs. Exercise". In the video, my friend Brad Pilon ate a pizza while I exercised on a treadmill. In less than 10 minutes he consumed over 1200 calories, while I had burned around 100 calories. The point?Diet is far more important to your fat loss program than exercise. You can't out-train a bad diet, unless you're a genetic freak or seventeen years old. In either case, I doubt you'd be reading this...So in my quest to lose 30 pounds - if I ever had to do that - the second thing I'd do after joining a fat loss community would be to use the best fat loss nutrition program for my personality. The right diet can cure belly fat.And for me, that right diet would be....Isabel De Los Rios' "Diet Solution Program". Here's why I chose Isabel's program.1) I like to make a "game" out of eating better. I know that competition mentality works best for me.So each day, I'd use Isabel's program and make baby steps to eating … [Read more...] about The Best Diet for Losing Belly Fat
Adrienne Bailon and sweetheart, Israel Houghton, tied the knot earlier this month in Paris, and the wedding photos show a slim Bailon enjoying her special day. It’s been reported that she went on an intense weight loss program to slim down for the big day, losing a whopping 22 pounds in only two months. That’s impressive, but I’m also willing to bet she will put a lot of the weight back on. Losing 22 pounds in two months is an unrealistic expectation for most, and this form of crash dieting very rarely results in long-term or sustainable weight loss. At most, you should be aiming to lose between one and two pounds per week to achieve your goals. The faster the weight comes off, the less time it takes to come back. If you want to lose weight fast for something like a wedding or beach vacation, then adopting an unsustainable training program might be the best way to do it. It’s not necessarily healthy, but it will result in weight loss. Bailon’s trainer … [Read more...] about Adrienne Bailon Reportedly Followed Extreme Diet to Lose Weight Ahead of Wedding to Israel Houghton
For decades, those people slightly or heavily overweighed were told by nutritionists and health experts that the best way of getting rid of those unwanted extra pounds was to stick to a long term and steady diet plan. Apparently, losing weight gradually was much better than following any of the more popular and much advertised crash diet plans that offered almost instant weight loss. Diet plans such as the 3 day military diet, the astronaut diet, the cabbage soup diet, the grapefruit diet or the Scarsdale Diet are examples of these nutrition plans that have been traditionally considered not only dangerous but ineffective as well. Medical papers written by nutrition experts have long emphasized the fact that crash diets were the easy but harmful way to shed pounds. From the well known yo-yo effect in which crash dieters quickly gained back their intial weight and even more pounds, to adverse health effects and a reduction in metabolic rate , lots has been said about the … [Read more...] about Crash Diets Under the Microscope: Losing Weight Fast May Not Be As Harmful
