Every March, more than 67,000 healthy foodies—hippies and suits alike—descend on Anaheim, California for Expo West. It’s a Whole-Foods-come-to-life experience, where innovative food brands from around the world shill samples side by side in the name of natural food. Here’s a taste of some of the cleanest, coolest stuff we found: 1. Cashew milk ice cream When you see the words “frozen dessert” on a package, you can usually assume two things: It’s dairy-free, and it tastes only 15% as good as ice cream. Only the first applies to Mr. Dewie’s. Their organic coffee “ice cream” is made only from raw homemade cashew milk, organic cane juice sugar, organic vanilla extract, organic coffee, and a pinch of salt. And thanks to all the nuts, each ½ cup serving packs 7 grams of protein. It’s more like a thick, creamy gelato than ice cream. And the fact that it’s a fairly healthy dessert is an afterthought to how … [Read more...] about What’s Hot In The World Of Healthy Foods?

I'm trying to figure out which god Zach Orcutt pissed off.Maybe he seduced some maiden favored by Zeus? Or left one of Artemis's sacred deer by the side of the highway? Only a misstep of this magnitude, it seems, could explain his perverse fate."It's not fair, is it?" I say. "No," he says. "It's not."We're talking in a pizza joint, well back from the windows. The sky is overcast, but the sun is out there somewhere. In a way, sunny days are almost preferable, because at least then he knows exactly where the danger is, and how to dodge it. Awnings, alleys, underground parking garages—these things are his friends. For Zach, even minimal exposure to the sun could prove fatal. When he was 5, he was diagnosed with xeroderma pigmentosum, or XP, a staggeringly rare genetic disorder that leaves him a thousand times more susceptible to skin cancer than the rest of us are. XP patients tend not to live very long. They maintain constant vigilance. The first cancer is usually removed before age … [Read more...] about What If a Day in the Sun Could Kill You?
THE AVERAGE GUY WALKS INTO THE AVERAGE GROCERY STORE and, this being 2010, he faces a choice.Well, actually, 47,000 choices of products, many with labels touting their health benefits. Low-fat. High fiber. Natural. Free range. No high-fructose corn syrup. Organic. Most of the label language is marketing crap. Some of it is more important than you know.Organic brands are taking up more and more shelf space, especially in produce sections. Initially, the classier (i.e., pricier) the store, the more organic labels were sprouting among the arugula. But Walmart has now cleared space for them, too. And unless the average guy treats money like so many cabbage leaves, he also notices some unaverage prices on those organic items. He's likely to wonder: Could these foods possibly be worth it? And if I have a cartful, will women like me more? The answer to the first question is yes, which means the second one probably merits an affirmative as well. In my … [Read more...] about 15 Ways to Change the World (and Your Life)…

As the World Series kicks off tonight on FOX, this year's Fall Classic promises to be a doozy: The Boston Red Sox will face off against the St. Louis Cardinals in a much-anticipated rematch of the 2004 Series. That year, the Sox surprised the Cards with a 4-game sweep to win their first championship since 1918.Though the stakes aren't quite that high this time around—Boston last won it all in '07, and St. Louis took home the title just 2 years ago—it's still a matchup of the two best teams in baseball. Plus, there are secret story lines in play that might surprise you—and may even make you a richer man. Here, MLB Network's Kevin Millar (himself a member of that famed '04 Sox squad) reveals four big things to watch for in this year's World Series.1. There will be no Cinderella story.More often than not, the World Series tends to feature the two teams that get hot at the right time—but not this year. No Wild Card team even made it to the Divisional round this … [Read more...] about 4 Things to Watch for in the World Series
When it comes to the richest SOB on the planet, there’s a new billionaire atop the mountain, as Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos surpassed Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates for the title on Thursday morning. The official leap to the top spot followed articles on successive days, when Forbes wrote “Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Is Now Less Than $1 Billion From Being the Richest Person in the World” and wondered “How Long Before Jeff Bezos Overtakes Bill Gates as Richest Person on the Planet?” Well, that’s been answered. Making a billion (or, more accurately, $1.7 billion) can be done in a short time when people don’t want to leave their homes to buy things they can instead find for amazing prices on Amazon.Bezos was able to pass Gates after Amazon saw a one percent increase in shares, which is where Bezos makes most of his fortune from. According to Forbes, Bezos is now worth an estimated $90.6 billion, whereas Gates is still doing pretty well for … [Read more...] about Jeff Bezos Isn’t Just Richer Than You—He’s Now the Richest Man in the World
Most of our richest and fittest guys run companies with dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of employees. Many of them earn more in a week than you do in a year. And many are also busy raising families. Meanwhile, they also find time to work out for an hour—or two, or three—each day, often seven days a week. Then, on the weekends, they traipse off to compete in triathlons, ultramarathons, century rides, hockey games, rally races or even aerobatic air shows. These guys pour the same boundless energy, hyper-competitiveness and perfectionism into winning a time trial or sculpting their delts as they do into running their businesses. It's no coincidence that most of them prefer lone-wolf sports, where they can set their own schedules, push their own limits and rise or fall on their own merits. You don't reach this level of success without taking center stage. Try not to hate them too much.1. No matter where a girl grows up in the world, there’s a very good chance that she will be inundated with endless myths and misconceptions about menstruation, as no bodily function—with the exception of childbirth, perhaps—is more universally misrepresented and ubiquitously tabooed. From whence comes life, also comes our biggest source of shame. The cause of this stigma is truly perplexing. After thousands of years of menstruating, humans should probably be over the sight the blood itself, the odor, pain, and the waste it creates. And we certainly shouldn’t be mystified by the nature of the act, as almost every mammal on the planet operates on a cycle, from the tiniest fruitbat to the great blue whale herself. And yet—there are still places in the world where women miss out on opportunities, are denied access to school and jobs, and in some cases, become a man's property the moment her first cycle begins. For Menstrual Hygiene Day, WomensHealthMag.com looked … [Read more...] about Around the World in 28 Periods
(Natural News) As one of the very few independent voices willing to stand up against the scientific dogma of our modern medical regime, I’ve long felt a need to communicate the dangers of flu shots to the public so that people can have better information to prevent vaccine injuries and save lives. This doesn’t mean I’m opposed to the theory of vaccination, by the way. In fact, I’m the author of A Blueprint for Safer Vaccines, an audio guide to saving lives and preventing vaccine injuries and deaths. To my knowledge, I’m the only independent journalist in the world who is scientifically trained to run an atomic mass spectrometry laboratory, which I’ve been running for over three years now and testing the heavy metals content of organic superfoods like cacao, common vaccines as well as the ability of water filters to remove toxic heavy metals. I’m the creator of the Low Heavy Metals Verified standard and I’m the … [Read more...] about PROOF: Flu shots are the greatest medical fraud in the history of the world
Everyone loves to travel, to explore new places, meet new people, undergo exciting adventures and come across diverse cultures and societies. Travelling is quite peaceful and relaxing because it helps you to break away from your chaotic life. Sometimes it’s just the break you need in order to keep your sanity intact. My personal opinion is that everyone should go for a vacation at least every 6 months. Travelling doesn’t mean that you have to spend thousands of dollars and visit another country; it could be something as simple as you going to another city by road. As long as you get away from your hectic lifestyle and go somewhere which helps you relax and enable you to enjoy life. That is what I consider vacation, where I don’t have to worry about work, school or household chores just for a couple of days. However, these days everyone just tends to visit the same places over and over again such as Thailand, Switzerland, Italy and Malaysia. Not taking anything … [Read more...] about 8 Most Under Rated Vacation Spots In The World
